MAY 2009
|
Hello & Welcome to the 16th edition of “In The Groove”, The Groove Kitchen & Music Rooms monthly newsletter. Thanks to everyone that helped
me celebrate my birthday this year. Special thanks to my girl Gillian for putting it all together ! As usual I had a great time with friends and family.
As the weather warms up we all feel the need to get outside and take advantage of our short season. For that reason,The Groove Kitchen has
officially opened up the patio with some fresh new Sleeman umbrellas and a few tables and chairs. Come down and enjoy the excitement on
King Street in the heart of The Preston Towne Centre. If the entertainment inside the Groove isn’t enough there are plenty of people watching
opportunities to be had while enjoying a beverage in the great outdoors.
Cheers!
Matt Storch

A friend took me in last night and I was blown away. What a great place! Keep up the good work! So nice to have a place like this so close to
home and not having to drive to Toronto.

This Month on the Artist's Wall - Kailey Hawthorn
|
|
As a graduate of the University of Guelph, Honours Studio Art program, Kailey has spent the last two years exploring various themes
and topics in her paintings and prints. She has also spent much time doing commissioned work, while traveling between two small work
spaces in Windsor and Cambridge, where she grew up. Other shows Kailey has participated in are the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition,
and the One of a Kind Show.
The majority of her work consists of bright, bold colours and explores vintage and contemporary textile/wallpaper patterns. Using a
collage-like style, her work is very much influenced by popular fashion and home decor. Juxtapositions and the notion of surprise are
elements that Kailey embraces in her work. She aims to emphasize the feeling of chance, randomness and the unexpected. Kailey
also explores another contrast, which is; the flat way in which the paint is applied, as well as, the depth and visible process that a
collage of images and patterns adds.

Tom Wilson... What can I say ?
|
|
At times owning a restaurant, bar and entertainment venue can be more than a little challenging and at times less than enjoyable. However,
there are times like Saturday, May 2 that make up for all of it. This was one of those electric evenings when the stars were aligned and the
energy was fantastic. As the opening sounds created by Erica Knight and Dennis Napper emanated from the stage and silverware came to
rest on the tables of all those who enjoyed the Groovy feast set out by Chef John Wellwood and hostess Gillian Stagg, the room became
hypnotized. Following the all original set from
Erica Knight, the stage was set for an all out rock and roll showcase.
Tom Wilson and his trusty Gibson took the stage with former Junkhouse bandmates and put on a show like The Groove Kitchen has yet to experience.
Fresh off of a string of U.S. dates as Lee Harvey Osmund with his band, Blackie & The Rodeo Kings, Tom Wilson entertained the intimate crowd
for 2 hours straight. At one point the entire band joined the audience in the middle of the room for an “all in” version of Johnny Cash’s, Ring Of Fire.
For the Tom Wilson fans in the house, they could not believe that this was happening in their own back yard and that The Groove Kitchen & Music
Room had secured an act with such a resume.
I would like to thank all of those that came out to make it such a Rock & Roll affair. This will be one of many special concerts to be witnessed at
The Groove Kitchen & Music Room as we begin to take bookings to a whole other level. Please watch the calendar for upcoming events such as
our featured event for the month of June. Carlos Del Junko is one of the world’s greatest blues harmonica players and he will be gracing the Groove
stage on Saturday, June 27th.
A special thanks to photographer Brian O’Brien for his outstanding work as witnessed by the included Tom Wilson photo’s. To see more of Brian’s
talent visit www.brianobrien.ca.
