AWARD WINNING EXCELLENCE

The hospitality and entertainment industry is an extremely competitive and faced paced environment. With an extensive amount of restaurants and live music venues all bidding for your patronage, it is a huge honour for all of the staff and management at The Groove Kitchen to have been chosen for a number of outstanding accomplishments over the past few months. N one of these awards would have been possible without the support of people like you. Thank you for taking pride in your local community and taking the time to voice your opinions. It has made a huge impact on our success and for that we are sincerely appreciative.

Patrons of the Groove Kitchen & Music Room have been enjoying our Quality Cuisine since the introduction of Chef John Wellwod. The next award we would like to put on the mantel is one of the Echo’s “Best Of Food 09”.
Please take a moment to follow this link www.echoweekly.com/surveylogin.php and vote for our “Club House Sandwich”. This lunch and dinner feature is like no other I have experienced. Fresh chicken breast, avocado, tomato, cucumber, lettuce, sprouts and homemade garlic mayo piled high between layers of Portuguese bun make for the most satisfying and unique Club House Sandwiches I have ever experienced.

Let’s tell the Tri-Cities where it’s at! Thank you for your efforts!

Boogie Woogie Piano with Alan Gerber
Thursday, June 11

Strap on your boogie-woogie shoes, hold on and get ready ... Alan Gerber has arrived! This eccentric entertainer is wowing audiences internationally. His amalgamation of boogie-woogie, stunning vocal interpretations and fine musicianship make Gerber an artist of the highest order. His show is exhilarating and captivates audiences of all demographics placing him in high demand.

Alan's professional career began when he entered a music program at Roosevelt University in 1965. Producer Paul Rothchild (The Doors, Paul Butterfield, Janis Joplin...) discovered Alan's talent and soon he was a singer, songwriter and keyboardist for a group to become known as Rhinoceros. The release of two albums on the Elektra label brought Rhinoceros to tour North America with such names as Janis Joplin, BB King, Jefferson Airplane, Traffic, Jimi Hendrix, Steppenwolf, John Lee Hooker, Jeff Beck and others.

Alan left Rhinoceros and released his first solo effort in 1971 with Shelter Records and the worldwide distribution of this recording earned him a tour with Leon Russell. In 1974 the release of the single "Tied On" (produced by André Perry) went to number one on Québec radio and Alan toured the province in the wake of its success. Gerber placed two songs on the soundtrack of Bob Dylan's movie "Renaldo and Clara", performed at Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue and played with Lou Reed in the United States.

Alan has recently been touring Canada, the United States & Europe. His latest CD, Queen Of Hearts, is now available.

A songwriter, vocalist, musician, producer, and comic Alan Gerber is quite the enigma - certainly not to be missed.

Paul Macleod - Thursday June 25th

Paul MacLeod has completed "Bright Eyes Fade", his third solo record in fifteen years as a professional musician. On paper, three records in a decade and a half doesn’t sound all that impressive, but MacLeod hasn’t exactly been sitting around fiddling with his telecaster and picking out the coolest shirt to wear in his press photos. Paul MacLeod is undoubtedly one of Canada’s most valuable, sought-after, and tenacious singer-songwriters, and when a new record of his emerges, you had better believe that that record is built of sweat and blood and beautiful, heart-shattering songs.

MacLeod has maintained an ultra-prolific presence on the Ontario club circuit both solo and with his prog-rock super-group Hibakusha, (who released their debut in 2005 after a decade’s worth of toil). With this sort of schedule it’s amazing that even two solo albums have been released. His first, "Tell The Band To Go Home" was actually recorded live at Edmonton’s Sidetrack Café while on tour with the Skydiggers. His last, "Close And Play" was recorded and produced by a then unknown wunderkind named Hawksley Workman. In the years since that record, MacLeod has kept busy recording for soundtracks, (with three independent films under his belt), and of course, his newest opus.

So maybe three solo efforts in as many half-decades ain’t so bad. Rarely can anyone be certain that a record will be pure gold before the needle touches the groove. But rest assured, when you hear the opening notes of lead-off single “Annalisa”, and you hear that golden voice smiling over his guitar strings’ vibrations, you’ll know you’re hearing the best that pop music has to offer..
